Before the launch of Windows 7, the last versions of Acer Timeline was installed with Windows Vista, an operating system from Microsoft.
News report from AnandTech says that Acer installs Windows 7 operating system into its new line of laptops in Timeline series - namely Timeline 1810 (AS1810T), Timeline 3810 (AS3810T/As3810Z), Timeline 4810 (AS4810T) Timeline 5810 (AS5810TZ). With Windows 7, Acer laptops user has more battery life and faster performance than using Windows Vista. The letter "T" is code name for "Timeline".
Although using Windows XP will give same long battery life when using Windows 7, i suggest you to try Windows 7. Windows XP is too old for us to use.
One factor to be considered is, many 3rd prty softwares out there compatible most with Windows XP. I cannot guarantee if those software compatible enough with Windows 7 in Acer laptops. Maybe it will take 6 to 7 months for 3rd party software to be fully compatible with Windows 7.
What is 3rd party software anyway? It was a software contained in CD or DVD, produced by another manufacturer other than Microsoft. Example for 3rd prty software are games CD, utitlities software, language software, antivirus software, design software, office software, productivity software.
